Author profiles and authorship disambiguation at zbMATH

Well-identified authorships of publications are essential for a reliable presentation of a scientist's research achievements. This is particularly important, if one is interested in the entire publication landscape of a field such as Mathematics, which is completely covered since 1868 in the zbMATH database.

However, authorship identification is a nontrivial problem for different reasons: author-related data contained in a publication may be incomplete (abbreviated or missing name parts) or incorrect (typos or transliteration problems), or a given author may publish under different names.

The problem of author disambiguation is too difficult to be tackled completely algorithmically. On the other hand, the amount of publications incorporated every year into zbMATH is too big to solve this task manually. The talk gives an overview of the recent developments in zbMATH on both aspects to provide reliable and attractive author profiles. We will also present a new graphical interface through which zbMATH users can have direct impact on author profiles.
